CU Crit

No 35+ category this year for the CU Crit so I got the pleasure of riding the 3,4,5 race. There was a 1,2,3 race but Jaime and I had planned to go for a ride around the Title 9, Tuesday Night route. All was well for positioning until I decided to make a Jared Roy-esque attack, in his honor, 20 minutes into the race. Kenny was off the front and I moved up into the 3rd spot to block. When he was caught, I jumped and got a decent gap. Looking back at the field, I didn't see any teammates towards the front so I went back. It took a few laps to recover but I felt pretty good and want to get back to the front to sprint.

I have never been in a pack that took up the entire road from curb to curb for the whole race. To make moving up more interesting, the collegiate guys are freakin' sketchy and tend to hold a variety of lines. It was virtually impossible to move forward, not due to speed (only averaged 26.5)but the moving wall. I even tried the to-be-used-only-if-you-are-to-be-labeled-the-douche curb dive on a sweeper turn and only moved up about 10 to 15 places. That was enough for me. I accepted my fate but kept looking for a spot to move up. Nothing. Since we were getting towards 5 to go I decided to fade off the back to await the crash. Thanks to some the CSU guys, it came on the last lap right next to me. It looked kind of ugly and I guess one of them had a broken Collarbone. The peril of spinting for 50th. That was crash number 4 for the race. Another guy went flinging off course and landed on a family of spectators. Truly a fine early season race full of fear and fun.

The 1,2,3 race had Tom Danielson (Slipstream-Chipotle), Henk Vogels (Toyota-United), Ivan Stevic(Toyota-United), Tom Zirbel aka Zirbeast (Bissell), and some other pros in the field along with the local Colorado 1,2 zippy zips.

The great Dave Towle announced for a while. He and Rosebud go way back. Rosebud even thinks his dog, Arles (spelling unsure), is one fantastic dog-specimen.
